Bloom Academy is hosting its second annual, Benefit for Bloom, on May 27th, 2023. We are asking our community for help to raise funds that will allow us to continue to serve the children in our community. Here is a bit about Bloom Academy- Bloom is the first and only self-directed learning center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bloom serves as an educational alternative to children whose social-emotional, physical, or academic needs are not being or would not be met in conventional school. Our mission is to celebrate and nurture the natural curiosity of every child through self-directed education. We operate under the philosophy that children are natural learners and will learn the skills and content they need through their own interests and natural inclinations- whenever they feel it is relevant or important to their lives. Through self-directed learning, we aim to ensure that all children are given an opportunity to succeed- regardless of their race, economic status, or academic level!

Through our experiences as students and educators in the school system, we have witnessed many children who have so much to offer yet they are not given an equitable opportunity to succeed due to their socioeconomic status. In addition, families in lower-income areas have expressed a need for an alternative educational space for their children and many have reported early developments of anxiety and depression. We believe all children deserve access to a learning environment that is more inquiry-based so that children may connect with their learning and feel prepared to create a future that is meaningful to them- whether it be through entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, travel, or college. This is why we are asking for your help!

Benefit for Bloom is an event focused on raising money for our Scholarship Fund. which provides many children with the opportunity to learn in a setting that gives them the time, space, and support they need to "bloom" into the best versions of themselves.

So come dance, eat, drink, and be merry all while providing children within our community the opportunity they deserve to learn in an environment that empowers them to thrive! See you there!

When at Bloom, children choose how to spend their time- whether it be participating in the day's workshops, creating art, using technology, inventing a new game, socializing, or playing.Bloom Academy is open during standard school days and hours and is available to children of all social and economic backgrounds.

What will this workshop cover?

As we prepare to open our doors, a lot of families are facing the fears that come with pulling their child out of conventional school. Questions such as, “Is what I’m doing legal even though Bloom Academy isn’t accredited?” or “If my child decides they want to return to conventional school, will they be able to enter into the same grade as peers their age?” With these questions coming up so frequently, we felt it necessary to call upon our dear, brilliant friend, Elissa Wahl. Elissa is the founder of the Nevada Homeschool Network and also the co-writer of the Nevada Homeschool Laws. She is also an unschooling mama, herself! During this session, you will be able to ask Elissa all of the questions that are keeping you up at night in regards to the legalities and fundamentals of homeschooling in Nevada.
